Sunday, July 30 has been declared “Undie Sunday” at the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, as the mission team undertakes a unique project in a unique way.
“What’s ‘Undie Sunday’? It’s the opportunity to help the Native Americans served by the United Methodist-sponsored Tree of Life Ministry in Mission, SD,” said Mission Chairperson Sue O’Brien, who invited all interested persons to take part in the activity either during one of the church services or at a special Sunday evening event.
O’Brien pointed out that the average annual income on the Rosebud Reservation is $7,714, and at Crow Creek Reservation, $5,213.
“As you can imagine, the needs are many. What is an absolute necessity to you can be a luxury for the folks who live on these reservations, which are served by the Tree of Life Ministries.”
To help, the Mission Team has declared Sunday, July 30, “Undie Sunday” and donors are asked to bring in new underwear and socks from infant to adult sizes.
Donations can be brought to one of the two worship services at 8 or 10:30 a.m. and/or between 6 and 7 p.m. Sunday evening, everyone is invited to come back to the church and trade “undies” for “sundaes”.
“We are going to set up a ‘make your own sundae’ area and give everyone a chance to share a cool treat and fellowship with others while helping the needy folks served by Tree of Life,” O’Brien said.
“Just thinking about ‘Undie Sunday’ brings a smile to your face. Donating ‘undies’ will warm your heart and sharing a delicious ice cream sundae will cool you off on a warm summer evening. Everyone is welcome to join us for this special mission project,” O’Brien concluded.
Anyone with questions can contact O’Brien at 684-2892 or Bald Eagle Parish Pastor Michele Somerville at 684-0179.
