The Tyrone Regional Arts Council is proud to feature the talents of young artists from the Tyrone Area High School.
The exhibit, located in the Gallery of the Tyrone Snyder Public Library on Pennsylvania Avenue, reflects a range of experience with works from students in 9th grade through 12th grade.
Art Department Chairperson, Mr. Eric Feather, explained the goals of the department.
He said, “We hope to help students appreciate the importance of the visual arts in their lives, to allow them to see the role the visual arts have played in our cultural history, and to enable them to experience the satisfaction of producing art.”
As part of the art curriculum, the 6th grade students are encouraged to be imaginative and develop basic drawing skills. In the 7th to 9th grades students are instructed to closely observe and render three-dimensional form. In the 10th to 12th grades students focus on evoking creativity and technical proficiency in a variety of media.
Colleen Ferrari also serves as an instructor in the art department.
The current exhibit will be in place through May 13 and features works created in a variety of mediums including colored pencil, ink, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, oil, graphite, clay, and even marker.
This project is supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and Tyrone Borough.
The young artists whose works are on display are: grade nine, Curtiss Woodcock; grade 10, Mike Haupt, Laticia Reed, Jill Mengel, Megan Decker, Casey Joniello and Craig Lewis; grade 11, Nick Diehl and grade 12, Stephanie Schmidt, Ashley Ripka, Lindy Carper, Amber Irwin, Heath Waite, Emily Lloyd, Samantha Friday, Katie Glace and Kylie Grassmyer.
