It’s that time of the year again! The circus is back and everyone’s invited.
The 67th annual Jaffa Shrine will be performing beginning today through Sunday, April 23 at the Jaffa Shrine indoor arena.
According to a recent press release, Jaffa circus leaders visited Florida this past winter to pick acts sure to please Central Pennsylvania audiences.
This year’s acts will come from the Hanneford circus organization, which is known as the “world’s most famous circus family”. They have put together similar circus performances for larger cities, including Pittsburgh, where they will perform prior to coming to Altoona.
This year’s program includes terrific tigers, with Royal Bengal and Siberian tigers presented by Clayton Rosaire; Miss Susanna Swenson, ballerina on horseback; an amazing display of animal intelligence with Panfilova Housecats and a beautiful and breathtaking aerial display high above the arena floor with Miss Angela.
Also, a childhood toy becomes a work of art with Miss Alisa and a unique demonstration of horse training at is finest will be presented by Carlos Swenson and Jasper.
Following intermission, the Yaagantsetseg Duo will perform. From the outer reaches of Mongolia, they are the world’s most dynamic and captivating duo of contortionists.
The Flying Wallendas will perform high in the air and of course, everybody’s favorites, the biggest stars of the circus will make an appearance, Hanneford’s performing elephants.
Also throughout the show, everyone will be entertained by the Jaffa Shrine clowns.
The show will end with a patriotic red, white and blue star-spangled spectacular, “saluting the greatest nation on Earth and the greatest stars of the circus”.
Show times will be Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.; Saturday at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Prices remain the same as last year with tickets costing $7 and $12.
