The AARP Driver Safety Program will offer nine driver safety classes throughout the area for seniors ages 50 and older during April.
In Tyrone, the class will be held on April 4 and 5 at 1 p.m. at Epworth Manor. To register, individuals should call Melissa Harpster at 686-2650.
Individuals 55-years-old or older who complete the eight-hour course are eligible for a state-mandated five percent discount on their auto insurance for a three-year period.
If there are two or more individuals age 55 or older on an automobile policy, all must take the course to be eligible for the discount.
A small fee per participant is required to cover student materials and handouts. Checks or money orders should be made payable to AARP.
All participants must be pre-registered and prepaid to attend this class. AARP membership is not required.
Participants must register and pay in advance.
Classes are also scheduled at the Blair Senior Services on April 8, beginning at 8 a.m. Interested individuals should call Maureen Adams at 946-1235 or call toll free at 1-800-245-3282. Blair Senior Services is located at 1320 12th Avenue, Altoona.
On April 25 and 26, the course will be held at the James Van Zandt VA Medical Center, beginning at 9 a.m. The medical center is located at 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. Call Jay McKnight at 941-2065 to register.
Altoona Regional Hospital Healthy Living Gold Club, located at 620 Howard Ave., Altoona, will host the class on April 11 and 12 at 6 p.m. To register, call Dana Shade at 889-2630.
Classes will also be held in Duncansville, Mount Union, Saxon, Cresson and Cassville.
