Tyrone’s Dance Fusion will get the nod for this year’s opening act for the Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library’s annual fundraising concert, “An Evening with the Drifters”.
The concert will be held Saturday evening, March 25 at the Tyrone Area High School auditorium. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting promptly at 7 p.m.
“We are looking forward to showcasing some local talent this year to open our show,” said Chuck Banas, the library’s concert chairman. “Last year we had a dance group come in from the Pittsburgh area. They did a great job and got the show off to a fast and exciting start. This year we wanted to try and accomplish the same result. I had a good many people ask me to try and use some local talent. We approached Lindsay Folk, owner of Dance Fusion in downtown Tyrone, and she thought it would be a great idea. I spoke to Lindsay last week and she said her students are ‘very excited to be performing’.”
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these kids to be appearing on a card with The Drifters. It is just a great chance for them and for us to be able to showcase our local youth and talent,” said Banas. “We will be featuring the senior competition team in a few numbers that are high energy and should get the crowd ready to go for a great evening of entertainment.”
Dance Fusion is located on Tenth Street in Tyrone. It currently has 160 students, ages two through 60 enrolled. It has been in Tyrone for three years. The competition team is made up of 23 young ladies ages six through 18.
Dance Fusion is owned by Lindsay Folk of Altoona. Lindsay has 10 years of teaching experience and has been dancing for 25 years.
In April, Dance Fusion will be competing at Cornell High School, outside of Pittsburgh, as part of the Rising Star Talent Competition. They also will be traveling to Carlisle to compete and take workshops at the Urban Jamm Competition.
Tickets are still on sale for the concert. All monies raised from this year’s annual show goes toward payment of the mortgage on the new library located in Tyrone. Tickets are $30 per person. All seats will be reserved seating. All concert tickets may be purchased at one of the following ticket outlets: Bressler’s Food Mart and Sports, Kopp Drug and the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. Tickets are also available through mail by calling 684-7929.
“Tickets sales have been very good,” said Banas. “We are sure that this year we will enjoy another very successful evening.”
The four concerts the library has produced have already raised over $35,000 for payment towards the mortgage on the new library.
In addition to Dance Fusion, Banas indicated there will be three other opening acts. After a brief intermission, the headliners will rock the stage. The Drifters will be doing all of their greatest hits plus many, many more.
“We have one more surprise up our sleeves that we are working on and I hope to be able to officially announce something within the next two to three weeks. However, I would not even remotely wait. This is already going to be a great show. If we can pull this last item together I am sure there will be a rush for the remaining tickets. The auditorium is already three quarters sold out. Believe me. You will want to kick yourself if we are able to pull this last item together and you miss the opportunity,” Banas said.
There will be a meet and greet after the show in the high school auditorium. Individuals can get autographs and pictures taken with all of the participants in this year’s show. Bring cameras, but remember there is no flash photography during the show.
