Judith A. “Judy” Harris, 64, of Tyrone died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Beverly Healthcare-Hillview.
She was born September 13, 1941 in Altoona, a daughter of the late Raymond J. and Elsie C. (Hilty) Gore. In 1963 in Tyrone she married Charles R. Harris.
Surviving are her husband of Tyrone, a daughter Julie A. Harden of Tyrone, a son Jason W. Harris of Tyrone, two granddaughters Paris A. Harden and Meredith Harris and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Harris was a loyal employee of Engelman Florist, Tyrone for over 35 years and later worked at Alice’s Garden, Tyrone.
She was a longtime member of the Howard Gardner American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 281 where she was actively involved and held several positions. In 1986 Judy was honored at their national convention as Auxiliary member of the year from the state of Pennsylvania.
She was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts and had participated in a Girl Scout round-up in Wyoming. She was a key person in revitalizing and keeping the Girl Scout movement in Tyrone with past positions as Service Unit Director, Cookie manager, Leader, Assistant Leader and Troop Aide. In 1981 the Girl Scouts of Tyrone honored her with “Judy Harris Day” as they started their summer camp program at Reservoir Park. She was truly a dedicated Girl Scout and treated all girls with the utmost respect.
Judy enjoyed animals and helping others. She was a volunteer at Epworth Manor for many years and was an avid blood donor.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Rev. Peggy Bonsell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Taylor Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
