New owners have big changes in store for Joybeans.
Individuals driving down 10th Street in Tyrone may have noticed the signs in the windows of Joybeans which read “Coming soon: Wendy’s Joybeans and Bakery”.
Once again, Joybeans, located at 25 W. 10th Street, Tyrone came under new ownership when Wendy Boytim purchased the business.
The coffee shop originally began when Bill and Carol Anderson decided to start their own business. After years of running the shop, Victoria Isenberg and her husband, Brooks, purchased the business from the Andersons in December 2004.
Once again, the business has changed hands. And, with this new change comes a new look.
Currently, Boytim is remodeling the building in preparation for the shop’s reopening.
Boytim said she will still serve specialty coffees, lattes, smoothies and cappuccinos but she will be expanding the business. She will be adding homemade baked goods to the menu. Ovens are being added to the kitchen so patrons can enjoy that “fresh out of the oven” goodness.
“I have been baking forever and everyone said I needed to open a bakery,” said Boytim. “When I heard Victoria was selling the coffee shop, everything just fell into place.”
Visitors will also notice several other changes including the extension of the front counter and the removal of walls that previously housed computers.
Boytim also plans to show off her baked goods in a display case in the front window.
“It’s a lighted, refrigerated case that will sit in the window. Passersby will be able to see what kind of goodies we have available.”
According to Boytim, the customers will still have access to WiFi services. She said a lot of people bring their laptops in to use the Internet and they will still be able to do so.
“This is going to be a family operated business,” said Boytim, who added her son and husband will also work in the shop.
“Business is in my family,” she said, “My grandfather and father had Neil’s Tinning and Roof Shop and my grandmother had a doughnut shop just up the street.”
According to Boytim, hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
“We’re going to start off with these hours to see how it goes,” Boytim said.
“We might adjust them later,” she added, “but this should give people time to stop by after work and grab a cup of coffee, pick up a pie or meet up with friends.”
