The Tyrone Renaissance Education Foundation has announced that Martin’s Food has once again teamed up with several area school districts, including Tyrone, to help raise money.
Last year was the first year for the A-Plus Rewards Program which was designed to help raise money for local schools. Beginning in October and continuing through April, individuals can sign up for a Martin’s bonus card and the A-Plus program.
When signing up, individuals are asked to choose a participating school where they would like their earnings to go. Then the participants just need to grocery shop. Not only will they save money using the bonus card, but one percent of purchases made using the reward card is donated to the designated school. The A-Plus program is in conjunction with Martin’s Bonus Card program. Individuals who already have a bonus card can still sign up to be a part of the A-Plus program.
Mike Fox, a representative from Martin’s, explained that this program is different because “the schools are able to use the money for whatever they need.”
A lot of programs designate the money to specific programs or for specific purposes like buying computers. That’s not the case with Martin’s reward program. The money earned belongs to the school, for whatever they deem necessary.
Money donated to the Tyrone School District will be used by Renaissance for many different purposes.
The foundation rewards students for academic excellence, perfect attendance and much more. It also provides senior scholarships.
Recently, several middle and high school students were rewarded for maintaining perfect attendance throughout the first marking period. Each student with perfect attendance received a coupon from a local business. Then, all the names were submitted for a drawing. Two students from each grade were randomly chosen and received $20.
Also, each semester, Renaissance names several students as Renaissance “stars”.
Since Renaissance runs entirely on donations, receiving the reward money from Martin’s is a big help.
Now, with the Martin’s A Plus program, grocery shopping can benefit a son, daughter or grandchild, neighbor or friend.
