The Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of the area canvassed the neighborhoods of Tyrone last weekend hanging reminder tags of the food collection drive scheduled for this weekend.
Some leaders reported that they ran short of the door hangers, and not all houses got a reminder. All streets in the borough will be covered this Saturday to pick up groceries and transport them to the food bank.
Items needed include: canned meats, baby formula, baby cereal, macaroni, canned fruit, canned milk, cereal, peanut butter, canned fish, beef stew, canned soups (chunky style), canned vegetables, canned potatoes, powdered milk, packaged foods, paper products and boxed mixes.
Please nothing perishable, frozen or in glass.
If anyone lives in the rural areas or their groceries are not picked up, they can be dropped off all day Saturday in the Kopp Drug parking lot until 3 p.m. Groceries can also be dropped off at Kopp Drug on the following Monday and Tuesday.
The Food Bank at Wesley United Methodist Church will be the distribution site for all the groceries accumulated by this food drive.
Monetary contributions can also be made directly to the Food Bank in care of Levonne Angelo, 1200 Logan Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686.
Please have all groceries in a paper or plastic bag on the front porch by 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 19.
The Good Turn Food Drive is a project to collect canned and packaged foods for area neighbors in need.
Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts from Troops sponsored by Church of the Good Shepherd, Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, Warriors Mark United Methodist Church and St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church will be working together to perform this most needed community service.
