Republican write-in candidate James I. Burket beat out Republican Bob Ayers for a six-year term as Snyder Township supervisor. Burket will replace current supervisor James Chronister, whose term will run out in January 2006.
Ayers is the township’s current code enforcement officer and also serves on the township’s planning commission.
Burket’s wife, Republican Gail (Diehl) Burket ran unopposed for the four-year term as tax collector and also won.
Democrat Warren E. (Buddy) Daughenbaugh Jr., won a two-year term as supervisor, beating out Republican candidate and current supervisor, James L. Miller.
In November of 2004 after the death of Jim Daughenbaugh, Snyder Township supervisor for many years, Miller was appointed by the two remaining supervisors to serve for the first year of the three years remaining on Jim Daughenbaugh’s term.
At the township’s January 2005 reorganization meeting, Miller was named vice-chairman of the board of supervisors and was also appointed Road Master.
Burket and Daughenbaugh Jr. will join current supervisor and chairman, Charles Diehl.
Supervisors will appoint a firm to fulfill the duties of township auditor at the January 2006 reorganization meeting.
Candidates elected to fill positions on the Snyder board of supervisors will face a main concern for residents dealing with the township’s comprehensive plan and zoning.
At a special meeting held in September, the current board of supervisors voted to delete any reference to zoning from the township’s comprehensive plan. It continues to be an issue discussed at meetings because some residents are in favor of zoning while others are against it.
