The congregation of Grace Baptist Church in Tyrone begins the national campaign, “40 Days of Community”, tomorrow in the 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. services.
This national campaign was initiated by Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Orange County, California. Warren authored the NY Times Best Selling book, Purposed Driven Life. It is the second phase of a trilogy of campaigns designed to practically structure the activities of Christ’s church in “purposeful and practical direction”.
During the 40 Day Campaign individuals are teamed into a home Bible Study/Care Group around the Tyrone area to study Jesus Christ together and serve together donating time and money, when possible, to accomplish various projects around the local community. These home study/care groups will meet mostly on Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m. throughout the campaign.
There are also groups meeting throughout the week. There will be groups meeting in numerous locations in Tyrone, including a ladies group at the Tyrone Library. Small groups will also be located in Warriors Mark, Tipton, Sinking Valley, Eden Hill and other locations.
For information or to sign up to participate in one of these home studies, call Dave Grazier (Campaign Director) at 684-7888 or the church office at 684-5016; leave a message if there is no answer.
The theme of this 40 Day Campaign is, “Better Together”. The campaign is a study and practicing the core value of Christianity, that of loving and serving “one another”.
The goal is to deepen participants understanding of God’s love and simply be the “Body of Christ”. The church group and home groups have determined to team up with the care giving ministry of the Salvation Army to help the people of the Tyrone area with food, helping with the coat drive as well as Christmas toys for the children of Tyrone. Due to the fact that Tyrone lost the local staff and facility “presence” of the Salvation Army and yet the local needs that their ministry met continue, so the church group thought such a project through the S.A. would show God’s heart care for community families.
The campaign is open to anyone in the community that would commit to the small group studies that will be held in numerous locations around the area.
The “Youth Ministries” of Grace from pre-school through high school will also be having their own structured studies during the 40 Day Campaign.
The worship services at Grace Church will also be themed in with the campaign if anyone would like to come. Guests are always welcome; there is nursery care available for all services as well as a children’s church for youth pre-school up to 5th grade in the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
Grace Church is located across from East End Pizza on Columbia Avenue.
