On June 3, the movie, “Lords of Dogtown” premiered in theaters around the country. The movie is a true story about a group of teenage surfers from the streets of Venice, California, known as Dogtown.
The 70s group, Zephyr skateboarders, or better known as the Z-Boys, took their fearless surfing style to the streets, which pioneered a style of skateboarding that inspires young skateboarders to this day.
Two of those young skateboarders are Devon and Travis Mertiff. The day after the movie opened, Devon and Travis had the opportunity to pay their respects to one of the original Z-Boys, Jay Adams, at Kona Skatepark located in Jacksonville, Florida.
While Jay was at the park promoting his new movie, the boys were thrilled to meet him and have their picture taken with them.
Devon and Travis are the sons of Bob and Jennifer (Burghard) Mertiff and the grandsons of Shirley and Garth Burghard, respectively, all formerly of Tyrone. They now reside in Florida. Their Tyrone grandparents are Bob and Colleen Mertiff and Carol and Jerry Lynn.
