Alice P. Eckard, 79, of 4055 Market St., Birmingham, died Saturday morning, July 23, 2005 at her residence.
She was born February 21, 1926 in Birmingham, a daughter of Blair N. and Mary Elizabeth (Anders) Keith.
She is survived by daughters Edith Newberry of Birmingham and Sylvia Weakland and her husband Richard of Tyrone, who were raised in the home of grandparents Blair and Mary Keith.
She was married June 24, 1954 at Winchester, Va. to Clarence B. “Barney” Eckard, who died June 24, 1968. Surviving from this marriage are four daughters: Carol Spicer and husband Robert of Bellwood; Barbara Oldro and husband James of Bald Eagle; LaRue Golemboski and husband Joseph of Tyrone; Paula Scott and husband Cloyd of Birmingham; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a sister Verna Snook of Muscle Shoals, Ala.
She was preceded in death by a special friend, Amos Benjamin Gardner.
She was of Brethren Faith, had attended Tyrone schools and was a member of the Bellefonte American Legion Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, cryptogram puzzles and playing cards.
She retired in 1992 as a kitchen aide from Grier School after 13 years service and was previously employed at Reliance Manuf. Co. and the Centre Comm. Hospital in Bellefonte.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Rev. Dennis Gable officiating. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, Bellefonte.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Contributions in her memory may be given to the Birmingham Presbyterian Church or to any favorite charity.
