A drug bust carried out in Blair County by several law enforcement agencies has netted at least 20 people from Tyrone, according to agent Randy Feathers of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Blair County Municipal Drug Task Force.
In a press release issued around 8 a.m. this morning, Attorney General Tom Corbett, Blair County District Attorney Dave Gorman and task force officials announced drug agents and task force officers conducted a drug sweep of suspected drug violators who allegedly have been involved in the delivery and/or possession of controlled substances in Blair County.
The release said law enforcement officers from the attorney general’s office, the task force and the state police began serving warrants around six o’clock this morning. Feathers said, in all, the bust netted 48 suspects.
The defendants were brought to the Frankstown Armory where they were processed. The subjects were expected to be arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judges Fred Miller and Joseph Moran.
District Judge Miller said his office processed 62 arrest warrants for 30 individuals. He said all but two of the arrest warrants came through the Tyrone Police department. The other two arrest warrants contained charges filed by the Altoona Police Department. Some of the individuals were charged with multiple counts which explained the amount of arrest warrants being more than double the amount of individuals processed by the district judge. Miller said preliminary hearings for the suspects are scheduled for next Thursday and will be held throughout the day.
A press conference with Attorney General Corbett, DA Gorman and local police officials was scheduled for 11 a.m. today, just after The Daily Herald’s press deadline. A complete story about today’s drug bust will appear in Saturday’s edition.
The Blair County Municipal Drug Task Force is made up of 14 municipalities in Blair County.
