“Heavy metal thunder” will once again resonate throughout central Pennsylvania as hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts gear up for this year’s “Bikers for Barkers” event to benefit the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
The traditional July 4 weekend event will be held on Saturday, July 2 this year. Funds raised by the two-wheeler enthusiasts go to help the homeless animals at the CPHS shelter in the Greenwood section of Altoona.
In addition to the fun ride starting at the Humane Society shelter and ending at DelGrosso Amusement Park in Tipton, participants will be treated to music by local blues legend Felix and the Hurricanes.
Those who register will get a “limited edition” Bikers for Barkers T-shirt, a DelGrosso barbecue chicken dinner (additional dinners can be reserved ahead for $7 each) and be eligible for cash prizes and door prizes. Registration is $20 per rider. CPHS officials suggest riders register early to expedite check-in procedures on the day of the event. Those who register by June 17 (deadline has been extended) will be guaranteed a correct sized T-shirt for the ride.
As a main part of the “dice run” riders will roll dice and the beginning and end of the run and have their scores recorded. Cash prizes will be awarded to the high and low rollers.
Secure parking for riders will be provided at all locations. Check-in registration at the shelter location (1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona) runs from 10 a.m. until noon. The ride will be held rain or shine.
Last year’s event raised nearly $10,000 for CPHS and drew 340 riders. For the latest details on this years ride, call CPHS Executive Director Dave Hopkins at 942-2477 or pick-up registration forms at area motorcycle dealers and shops in addition to the shelter. (forms can also be mailed out if necessary)
Volunteers for the event are needed and welcome. Call to sign-up.
All the funds raised at the event go towards helping the homeless animals at the shelter.
