The Bellwood-Antis School Board got down to business last week following a discussion on the possibility of contracting out bus services for the district.
Out of the 40 residents in attendance, a handful chose to voice their concerns on the busing issue. The board remained rather quiet on the issue since it is still in negotiations with Raystown Transit. Superintendent Brian Toth and Business Manager Ken Swanson did share information regarding the safety and financial issues behind the possible change.
Although most of the residents were in attendance for the busing issue, a few stayed for the regular board meeting.
On the agenda was a salary increase for the superintendent, which the board voted to approve at a three percent increase.
Several personnel issues were also up for vote.
Sue Forshey was appointed to the position of car/van driver at a rate of $9.06 per hour for three hours per school day.
Bernadine Estep was appointed to the position of substitute bus driver for the year.
Substitute teachers were also approved, Todd Narehood and Sharon Slack both as day-to-day substitutes.
The board accepted resignations from Stephen Shiffler as bus driver, Pat Daugherty as bus driver and Lori Woods as JV Volleyball Coach.
Ken Swanson, Bill Edmiston, George Bell, Rudy Bilka III, Matt Stinson and Wendy Wilson were all accepted as track volunteers for the 2005 season.
A two-hour cafeteria position was filled as of April 13. Malena Myers was approved for the position at a rate of $7.76 per hour.
Rose Tambellini will provide five hours of homebound instruction per week for a 12th grade student through the end of the year at a rate of $24.18 an hour.
The board agreed to approve the position of Ticket Chairperson for choral concerts at a yearly stipend of $649.57 to be paid through the Choral Activity Fund and the position of Ticket Chairperson for Musicals/Staff at a yearly stipend of $649.57 to be paid through the Musical Activity Fund. Marjorie McFalls is currently filling both of these positions.
Unpaid personal necessity leave was granted for Amy Zettle, who requested leave from May 2 through June 3.
The board also approved Christina Young as part of the Elementary Volunteer Program for the 2004-05 school year.
The board also took action on several policies, approving ten and submitting three for review. Those policies up for review include the student complaint process, dress and grooming and the use of bicycles and motor vehicles.
