Brian L. Bressler is running for a fourth term as a school director in the Tyrone Area School District.
He has served in the district for 12 years and has been the chairman of the student activities and service committee which includes the athletic council, cafeteria and student activities.
He has also serves on the physical plant and operations committee, financial operations committee and the employee relations committee.
According to a press release submitted by Bressler, he also attends other committee meetings to stay informed.
Bressler gives a lot of time to attending many of the personal growth training sessions provided by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, to keep himself and the school district informed on the ever-changing regulations and educational programs available.
“These training sessions help me to make educated decisions, which will provide a better education for our students,” said Bressler. “Not only do these sessions provide student information, but also ways for board members to keep the public informed on what is happening in their school district.”
Bressler has earned more than 100 credits from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and has been awarded advanced boardmanship status by the Association.
Recently, Bressler was chosen to represent Tyrone Area and Bellwood-Antis on the Intermediate Unit 8 Board of Directors starting in July.
In his release, Bressler noted one reason he is running for re-election.
He said he wants to see that the school district remains on the cutting edge of providing new and challenging educational programs for students in the Tyrone area.
He said the district is very fortunate to have an administrative team dedicated to developing programs for the students which are going to prepare them for life after graduation.
“This is what the majority of the staff and support staff work to achieve,” said Bressler. “ We have a lot of good quality people working in the district and I would like to see this continue.”
Bressler also highlighted a issue he feels is of importance; the No Child Left Behind Act and testing results.
He said, “This act has been one of the most widely discussed topics by not only school directors and administrators, but also by the state legislators. All agree, changes must be made to this federal initiative. There has been too much emphasis placed on these test results, which takes away from the students having the opportunity to explore and learn about the arts, which should be part of a well-rounded education experience.”
Bressler has been a business owner/operator for the past 28 years in Tyrone and serves on the church council of the First Lutheran Church.
In his release, Bressler said his time on the school board has been a very rewarding experience. He thanked the public for the trust they have shown in him.
He concluded by noting, “We have a very diverse group of people serving on your school board, all working towards a common goal of providing our students with the best educational opportunities, and our staff with the necessary support for professional growth.”
