Seventy-eight-year-old Stoddard Martin has announced he will be running for Bellwood Borough Council.
He has a lot of experience and has been on and off council for 30 years.
Martin explained, “During that time (on council), one highlight would have to be Bill Cornmesser and me going to Pittsburgh and obtaining for one dollar, 9.6 acres of land from the Pennsylvania Railroad for the Bellwood Antis Park.”
He felt another accomplishment during his time on council was the hiring of Police Chief Paul Pafahler who has been chief since 1984.
“The borough has done well since I left,” said Martin. “A person no longer has to climb to the second floor to get to council chambers.”
It is because of this, Martin says he would like one more term on town council.
He added that he “promises to oppose any tax increases.”
