Tyrone Borough is alerting residents that applications for the state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program Crisis grants has been extended.
The information came to the borough’s attention through a letter from energy provider Dominion Peoples.
Applications for LIHEAP will be accepted until March 24 and the application deadline for crisis grants has been extended until March 31.
Crisis grants of up to $300 are awarded to families with heating emergencies such as mechanical breakdowns, unexpected fuel shortages or pending shut-off notices.
The original deadline of March 24 was extended to March 31. The deadline for non-emergency cash grants that help families pay home heating bills remains March 24.
Interested parties should contact their utility company for more information about LIHEAP or other programs for families on fixed or limited incomes. Energy users in need of aid may also call their county’s assistance office for details about the LIHEAP program.
