The Daily Herald Holiday Recipe Contest was deemed a success as approximately 50 recipes were submitted from area residents.
The winner of the contest is Sharon Rydbom of Tipton who submitted the recipe of Russian Christmas cookies. Honorable mentions include Holiday Cranberry Casserole submitted by Carrie Maceno of Tyrone and Honey Cake submitted by Peggy Weakland of Tyrone.
Rydbom wins: a turkey and pie donated by Mac’s Market, $20 gift certificate from Tyrone BiLo, $20 gift certificate from Bellwood Hometown Market, a holiday tablecloth from G & P Dollar Stretcher, dinner glasses and dishes from Tyrone Dollar General, flatware from Tyrone Family Dollar, a centerpiece from Tyrone Engelman’s Greenhouse, $30 rental gift card from Silver Screen Videos and a 13-week subscription to The Daily Herald.
A guest chef, Scott Collinash of Tyrone, visited the Herald office to take time to look over the recipes and decide upon the winner.
He narrowed the list to five great recipes, and the Herald staff voted for their favorite. The names of the recipe submissions were covered during the voting process to assure anonymity.
Collinash offers Especially for You Catering, and he is also the in-house caterer for The Tyrone Social Center. To contact him, call 684-4116.
All submitted recipes will be published in The Daily Herald on Wednesday, November 24 in The Santa Gift Guide.
