Tuesday morning, Snyder Township supervisors voted in a new member at their meeting and then went about the business of approving a tentative budget for 2005.
An opening on the board had been created when supervisor James Daughenbaugh passed away in October.
The new supervisor is James L. Miller, Jr. who resides in the Bald Eagle area of the township. Miller said he was born in Philipsburg and raised in Tyrone. He left the area many decades ago and worked for Sprint telephone in Florida until returning to the area about four years ago.
He said he’s attended many meetings since his return to the area and will try to address the concerns and problems he’s heard about from other citizens.
“I want to tread slowly at first and look things over,” said Miller.
He said he had concerns about the township’s fire service. He said he would look at ways to make things better for the residents.
Once Miller was appointed, he was immediately sworn in and had voting powers for the remaining issues on Tuesday’s agenda.
After approving three different motions about seminars attended by or to be attended by township employees, the supervisors worked on the tentative budget for 2005.
Secretary Viola Dysart said the township millage total will be 11 mills. She said there will be no tax increase. Eight mills are for the general fund and three mills are for the fire protection fund.
