The Tyrone Area School District has announced the graduation speaker as Dr. Patricia Hoyne for the scheduled May 31, 2005 graduation ceremonies.
Dr. Patricia Hoyne, the youngest of Mr. and Mrs. William Hoyne’s seven children, graduated from Tyrone High in 1975.
After graduating from Tyrone with honors, Dr. Hoyne accepted an academic scholarship to Saint Francis University in nearby Loretto. At Saint Francis, Dr. Hoyne majored in Biology and graduated with highest honors before entering medical school. Her journey led her to Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she decided to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Hoyne served her residency at Georgetown University, and then she joined the teaching faculty there as well. Her strong ties to the Tyrone area compelled Dr. Hoyne to return and begin a medical practice in Altoona.
At the present time, Dr. Hoyne is involved in a private medical practice, but she also assists in teaching medical residents and physician assistant students from Saint Francis.
Dr. Hoyne resides in Hollidaysburg with her two children, Luke and Maggie.
On the evening of Tyrone’s graduation ceremonies, Mr. Richard Merryman, Miss Leslie Ieraci and a few others will host Dr. Hoyne and her immediate family members at an informal, school-sponsored luncheon in The Eagle Inn. Then, Mr. Merryman will escort Dr. Hoyne to the high school guidance office to get Daily Herald photographs with the valedictorian and salutatorian.
During the graduation ceremonies, Dr. Hoyne will talk for about 10 minutes. She will provide stories and examples on a subject meaningful for graduates so as to make this year’s speech one to remember.
A copy of the speech will then be provided to The Daily Herald so that it can be printed in the newspaper, following graduation.
