Harry T. Updike, 85, formerly of 1317 Blair Ave., Tyrone, died at 6:50 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at the home of his daughter Rose Keith at 1310 Washington Ave., Tyrone.
He was born Dec. 28, 1919 at Retort, PA, a son of Edward and Grace (Maines) Updike.
He was married Feb. 9, 1947 in Tyrone to Ellen L. Hafer who died Dec. 6, 1999.
He is survived by four daughters and one son: Mae Teeters (Marshall) of Alexandria; Christine Jukes (Robert), Esther Updike, Rose Keith (James) and John Updike, all of Tyrone.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, a brother, George Updike of Altoona, and two sisters: Lovie Walls of Tyrone and Esther Harris of New York.
There are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harry H. A. Updike; three sisters: Marian Langenbacher, Emma Updike, Christine Shultz and brothers Edward, Richard, Charles, Chester, William and John Updike.
He was an Army Veteran of WW II, a member of American Legion No. 281 and he enjoyed watching trains.
He retired in 1985 as a trackman from Conrail after 44 years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, with Pastor Sharon Ludrowsky officiating. Interment and Flag Presentation will be held at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
