Recently, at the Bellwood Borough Council meeting, talk of a new police cruiser was finalized, and Pat Morningstar updated council members on The Morning Star Restaurant, among other business.
In police business, the borough is looking at purchasing a new cruiser at a cost of $23,857. A radio kit can be used from the old cruiser although the lights could not. However, the price of the new car already factors in a new light kit.
The borough expects to have the new car by mid-March, once the weather gets better.
Council voted to adopt a resolution for the purchase of a sewer camera from Golden Equipment Co., Inc. for the PACC Automotive and Equipment Contract. They also adopted a resolution to collect delinquent per capita taxes by Berkheimer Associates.
Also, council members approved an agreement with the Central PA Humane Society, renewing their contract.
The Civil Service Commission met before the Borough council meeting.
Bob Hunter was appointed to a six year term, retroactive back to 2003. Jack Stewart was also appointed to a six year term.
In other business, the borough began discussions on installing a high speed Internet connection within the borough building, including the police station and will possibly be able to connect the office to the borough garage. Currently, they are planning to look at quotes from several providers in the area.
Pat Morningstar addressed the council regarding the new restaurant recently opened by he and his wife, Crindy.
“Things are going well, but there are a few changes planned for the future,” said Morningstar.
Those plans include a handicap ramp that will be added to the front door and a few other minor changes.
Council members expressed their excitement about the new restaurant coming to downtown Bellwood.
“We’re just really glad to have you here in town,” said Councilman John Gunsallus.
Everyone was pleased with the business and wished the Morningstars continued luck on their endeavor.
