Recently, Joybeans, located at 25 W. 10th Street, Tyrone came under new ownership when Victoria Isenberg and her husband, Brooks, purchased the business from Bill and Carol Anderson.
The couple took ownership of the coffee shop on December 1, 2004.
Individuals are able to stop by for coffee, tea, espresso (latte and mocha), flavored coke and iced tea, breakfast sandwiches, soup and salads.
“I wanted a coffee shop so badly that I wanted to just open one and start from scratch. But my husband and I got lucky and Carol and Bill Anderson had toyed with the idea to sell,” Isenberg said.
One day Isenberg and her husband went into Joybeans to order coffee and they just brought up the idea of buying the coffee shop.
“That got the ball rolling and the rest is history,” said Isenberg.
There have been some changes made since December when Isenberg took over the business.
“I wanted to make Joybeans more than just a morning routine. I wanted to make it a home away from home,” she explained.
“I extended the hours to include evening events and lowered the prices so you could come in on a more regular basis.”
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held yesterday to welcome the new business owners. Congressman Bill Shuster was on hand at the ceremony, along with local Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce members.
An open house is scheduled for this afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $5. Individuals will be able to sample the delicious treats available at the coffee shop, including cakes, pies, cookies and coffee. There will also be door prizes.
Since Joybeans originally opened in December 2000, it has hosted many musical events and book signings. These events will continue at the coffee shop along with several other activities.
Ronnie Russell presents a song writers workshop on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. for aspiring song writers. Then Wednesday, individuals can try out their new songs with Russell at open mic night. Friday evenings are full of entertainment at Joybeans with local bands and poetry readings among other things. Then on Saturday, everyone can stop in and try their hand at karaoke.
The Tyrone High School French Club has started a tradition at the coffee shop, turning it into a French cafe on several occasions, most recently at Christmas.
Also, a new book club has been started at the coffee shop. The members meet on the first Monday of each month to discuss the current book.
Joybeans is also equipped with WiFi Internet access. Customers can bring their laptops, sit down with a cup of coffee and surf the Internet.
Isenberg feels that Joybeans is an important asset to Tyrone.
“Tyrone needs to have what Carol and Bill started. It is a place to enjoy a cup of coffee with friends and feel at home.”
Joybeans is open Monday through Thursday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals can reach the coffee shop at 684-1135.
