The Tyrone Area YMCA building on Logan Avenue is now for sale for an asking price of $139,900.
Richard Johnston of Johnston Realty Inc. is in charge of the sale.
Vice President of the YMCA Board of Directors, Peter Dutrow, said the money from the sale would be used to pay off the YMCA’s substantial consolidated loan.
According to Dutrow, the Logan Avenue facility is currently being winterized, and some of the equipment at the old Penelec building along old Route 220 is being sold.
The YMCA Board is still planning on running the annual YMCA Steeler’s game, with the date to be announced in the future.
“We’re continuing to move on, even without the facilities,” added Dutrow.
According to Dutrow, the board is continuing to meet, and the members have told the bank they will stay together until all debts are paid.
Dutrow also explained in a previous article that board members are trying to relocate as many YMCA programs as possible to other areas in the community. However, the YMCA gymnastics program will no longer continue.
Recently, Tyrone Area School Board members voted to lease free-of-charge district classrooms to the Hollidaysburg YMCA for operation of the former Tyrone YMCA Preschool and before/after school programs, effective January 1, 2005. The agreement will last for the remainder of the 2004-05 school year.
The preschool and before/after school programs have been meeting at the old Penelec building along old Route 220, which was originally leased by the Tyrone YMCA to provide more space for existing programs. The preschool and before/after school programs will continue at the old Penelec building until December 30.
Also, school board members voted to lease free-of-charge the high school swimming pool to the Hollidaysburg YMCA so the former Tyrone YMCA swim program may continue.
