Abigail Becker is the recipient of Tyrone Hospital’s Extra Mile Employee Award.
Tyrone Hospital grants the award on a quarterly basis to an employee who demonstrates exceptional performance. This is the second time Becker has received the award. The first time she was recognized as the Extra Mile Employee Award recipient was in 1990.
Becker has been employed at Tyrone Hospital for 19 years. She worked in the medical records department for a number of years. She is currently a medical secretary and is cross-trained to assist in several different departments including the laboratory, nursing, environmental services and cardiopulmonary services.
She has earned a reputation among fellow employees as a team player and someone who quietly steps in to help where help is needed. She has voluntarily assisted during busy times in the materials management department and has also assisted with special marketing projects.
Becker said she was very surprised to learn she was the Extra Mile Award recipient, especially since she has won the award previously.
“I feel very comfortable working here and being with my co-workers,” said Becker. “I have worked here so long, it truly feels like family to me.”
Becker resides in Tyrone with her husband Brian. She has a son Brian, Jr., who is a freshman in college and a daughter Tyler who is in eighth grade.
“The Extra Mile Employee Award is special because it is driven by hospital employees,” added Walter Van Dyke, Chief Executive Officer at Tyrone Hospital. “It is an honor to recognize employees like Mrs. Becker who have been singled out by their co-workers and recognized for exceptional performance.”
Recipients of the Extra Mile Employee Award receive a commemorative plaque, an extra paid personal holiday, and a letter of commendation from the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer.
