The Warriors Mark Township supervisors are set to hear from the public on plans for an ACT 537 sewage facilities update and are expected to accept public comment on a proposed zoning ordinance which could be enacted as soon as tomorrow night.
The supervisors have scheduled a public involvement session for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Warriors Mark-Franklin Fire Hall. The session is being held prior to the regular meeting which is set for 7 p.m. During the regular meeting, the township is scheduled to take action on a proposed zoning ordinance.
At the November meeting, it was announced an activity report for an Act 537 sewage facilities plan update had been completed by Keller Engineers. Supervisors were told the Department of Environmental Protection had accepted the study and task activity report, and Keller was proposing to pursue the actual facilities plan. Supervisors took no action in order to allow solicitor Larry Clapper time to review the information. The cost for the plan was estimated at $52,950. Clapper noted the DEP would reimburse half the cost.
Last March, chairman of the supervisors L. Stewart Neff said, “I think with increased growth more and more development issues are going to move up on the agenda in the township. One example is the Act 537 plan we have been asked to look into by DEP. I think it’s a legitimate request and concern on their part and we are going to address it.”
Legally, all municipalities are required by the state Department of Environmental Protection to have an Act 537 plan in place to deal with wastewater issues. Warriors Mark is being asked to update a plan first put in place in the early 1990s.
Another issue that took center stage during the last year is a proposed zoning ordinance for the township. Secretary Catherine Noll confirmed this morning the zoning ordinance is on the tentative agenda for Tuesday’s meeting.
A legal notice about the ordinance was published in The Daily Herald on Jan. 15, 2005. The township will take public comment on the ordinance at its regular meeting on Tuesday and could act on it at the same meeting, according to the legal notice.
An ad by concerned citizens in the township was placed in Saturday’s edition of The Daily Herald voicing opposition to a sewage treatment plant in Warriors Mark and a proposed 253-unit rental mobile home park. The ad which listed the names of nearly 20 township residents asked members of the community to “tell our supervisors to vote against excess development.”
