The new year gives families a wonderful opportunity to make resolutions about activities they can do together in the coming year.
Once again, area residents will have the opportunity to help the children of New York in 2005. It’s time again to consider volunteering to be a host family for The Fresh Air Fund.
Volunteering as a family provides a chance to spend time together and to introduce children to volunteerism and community service.
Many children from New York City have visited this area during the summer through The Fresh Air Fund program. Each year, the program asks individuals and families to volunteer their time and open their homes to provide a unique opportunity for children from the city.
Escaping to a small, rural community, even for a short period of time, can be a very exciting, educational and beneficial time for these kids.
Since 1877, New York City children growing up in low-income neighborhoods have experienced the joys of summer in suburban and small-town communities through The Fresh Air Fund’s Friendly Town Program. By welcoming visitors into their homes during the summer, host families give Fresh Air children a break from the sometimes dangerous, hot and crowded city streets.
With the new year finally here, families can resolve to volunteer their time and help a child experience a small-town summer.
