Kairann Isenberg, a junior in Steve Everhart’s English class at Tyrone Area High School, has accomplished what no student in school history has ever achieved – a perfect score on a verbal section of a PSAT exam administered by the College Board.
Kairann’s maximum score of 80 on the writing section of the exam would equate to a perfect 800 score on the new SAT offered for the first time in March 2005. To underscore the rarity of Kairann’s accomplishment, Everhart points out that in the high school’s history only one student, Ian Wilson, had ever logged a perfect mark on any portion of a College Board SAT/PSAT exam.
“Kairann is a masterful stylist,” Everhart observed.
“She applies dutifully and imaginatively the strategies of structure, style and convention that are the spine of our writing program at Tyrone.”
Everhart expects a host of future perfect scores from Tyrone students in the near future, pointing to PSSA writing results over the past decade that consistently return perfect marks on Pennsylvania’s writing exams.
“Kairann may not be a blip on the screen as much as she’s a pioneer for future success on College Boards for Tyrone students,” he added.
“It’s my hope that our students’ excellence in writing eventually attracts scholarships to help them meet rising college expenses.”
