Tyrone Borough recently advertised for bids for some upcoming projects which are scheduled to be done next year.
The borough will open bids on Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. for a public address system for its council chambers and conference room and for swimming pool grates and pool access ramp for the community swimming pool.
At a meeting earlier this month, the council decided to seek bids for some of the improvements it plans to make at the pool.
The cost of replacing drainage and grating is estimated at $7,500. The estimate for the access ramp is $6,500. The ramp is designed to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Earlier this year, the borough’s engineer Ray Myers presented council with cost estimates for 16 different improvements at the pool. The estimates totaled $322,000. Council was left with having to prioritize from the list of items and decided to act on the drainage and grating and the ramp at a December council meeting.
Also earlier this year, Myers was instructed to prepare specifications for a sound system on the second floor of the municipal building. The system will be used in the council chambers and in the conference room. Originally, estimates had been obtained for installing the system in the council chambers only. Council then decided to consider estimates for both rooms. The project had to go out to bid because of the price tag of more than $10,000 involved to complete it.
The recently passed 2005 budget has money set aside for the improvements to the pool located at Reservoir Park. The borough also had money budgeted for other projects including renovations at the municipal building, street upgrades and a backhoe.
Borough council is next scheduled to meet on Jan. 3, 2005 and is expected to consider the issue of appointing a replacement for former council member Jeffrey Watson who resigned earlier this month. Today is the deadline for interested persons to submit a letter of interest to the borough to be considered for the vacant council seat.
