The Grangers honored Anabel Black for 60 years of service and dedication in the Grange. She was awarded with a 60 year pin and seal and a letter of accomplishment from the Pennsylvania State and National Granges. Anabel is the Steward in the Grange. She and her late husband, Sam, farmed for many years in Sinking Valley. They had three sons who also live in the Sinking Valley area with their families. Anabel’s son, Bob, and wife Penny, daughter, daughter-in-law and granddaughter were present to see Anabel receive this award.
Next, the Grangers recognized the Sinking Valley Volunteer Fire Company for its 50 years of service to the Sinking Valley community and other areas.
Representing the fire company was Fire Police Chief Jim Edwards of Sinking Valley.
A paper weight and a certificate from the Pennsylvania State Grange and National Grange was presented to Jim Edwards by treasurer, Mike Gurekovich. This award is called the Community Citizen Award from the Grange.
Jim Edwards presented an interesting program on volunteer firefighters and brought equipment and clothing that the firemen use and wear. Jim’s wife, Lois, accompanied him to the dinner and meeting.
