Are you an active individual who enjoys greeting the public?
If so, you may be interested in a new volunteer opportunity at Tyrone Hospital.
The hospital is currently seeking hospitality volunteers to escort outpatients from the hospital’s main lobby area to the surgical unit. There is a need for volunteers to work on Wednesday and/or Thursday mornings between the hours of 6 a.m. and noon.
Theresa Yanchetz, Coordinator of Tyrone Hospital’s Volunteer Program, said it is a perfect volunteer opportunity for anyone who is an “early bird” and for those who enjoy being physically active.
“Since this volunteer position involves escorting patients, it does involve a bit of walking,” Yanchetz said.
“One of the things that makes Tyrone Hospital different is that our small size allows us to provide more personalized care and attention to our patients. Like our other volunteers, the hospitality volunteers will help us take that ‘special attention’ one step further, in this case, for those who use our hospital for outpatient surgery,” she added.
Tyrone Hospital volunteers work varied schedules depending on their availability and the area where they are assigned. Yanchetz said some volunteers choose to work several hours at a time and others work shorter shifts. Yanchetz also explained that the hospital and volunteer typically work out a mutually-agreeable schedule, and they will take this same approach to cover the hours the hospitality volunteers are needed.
Each volunteer will also be provided with training and orientation to their position.
Tyrone Hospital’s volunteer program is open to adults age 18 years and older.
Individuals who may be interested in the hospitality volunteer positions are encouraged to contact Yanchetz for additional information and to obtain a volunteer application by calling Tyrone Hospital at 684-1255 extension 539 between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.
