This past weekend at the 26th annual Williamsport Invitational Band Competition, the Tyrone Golden Eagle Marching Band turned in their best performance to date to take home top honors in the Group 2 division.
Their score of 82.70 bested DuBois (81.70), St. Mary’s (79.50) and Indian Valley (76.45). They also took top awards in High Music and High Marching.
During a competition, bands are judged on their musical performance as individuals and as a group, as well as the marching and visual effects of their show. Individual awards are given for percussion, auxiliary, music, marching and drum major.
“This week’s show at Willamsport was a highlight in the 2004 season. The work the students have been putting into their show over the past few weeks really came through in Saturday’s performance, earning them a three point jump and the first place victory, their first this season,” said TASD band director, Kris Laird.
After marching in this week’s Halloween Parade, the band will perform their show at the football game Friday night. The band’s seniors will be recognized along with the football and cheerleading seniors before the game with Indian Valley.
Their next competition will be Saturday, October 30 at Lackawanna County Stadium in the Pocono Mountain Invitational.
