The 2004 Community Labor Day Picnic will be held Monday, September 6 at Reservoir Park, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Children’s games, co-coordinated by the Tyrone YMCA, are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in the area of pavilions two and three. Games will include the sponge game, shoe scramble, balloon stomp, water balloon stomp, peanut scramble and sack races. Age groups for the land games will be 2-4, 5-7, 8-12 and 13 and up.
Also at 10 a.m., 50/50 tickets will go on sale and registration for the attendance drawings will begin.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rotary chicken barbecue dinner can be picked up at the concession stand. The dinner includes half of a chicken, DelGrosso Park potato salad, baked beans, roll and ice cream.
The Schoch Hollow Boys will perform at the lower end of table one from 11 am. to 1 p.m. Between noon and 1 p.m., YMCA gymnastics will perform.
Pool games at the outdoor pool will begin at 1 p.m. as will prize bingo at table one. Bingo will be broadcast by WTRN and organized by the Tyrone Elks. Pool games will include swimming races, wet T-shirt relays, greased watermelon, cannonball contest and money dive. Age groups for the pool games are 5-7, 8-12 and 13 and up.
At 2 p.m. Star Search at the park amphitheater will be hosted by Tyrone Community Players.
The watermelon and pie eating contests will begin at 3 p.m. in the concession area. Age groups include 2-4, 5-7, 8-12 and 13 and up.
The 50/50 drawing will be held at 4 p.m. and the Fire Police restaurant raffle will also be drawn.
There will be plenty of food throughout the day. Rotary Club of Tyrone will have chicken barbecue dinners, as well as corn on the cob.
At kitchen table one, YMCA gymnastics will be selling veggie sticks and fruit cups and nachos and cheese. Boy Scout troop 103 will sell ham barbecue, sloppy joes, hot dogs, funnel cakes, chips and soda. Boy Scout Troop 20 will have coffee and apple dumplings.
Hot and mild sausage sandwiches, nachos and cheese, lemonade and iced tea will be available from the Shriners Club. The women’s Club will have half a rack rib dinner which will include cole slaw, baked beans and a roll. They will also sell pies and quilt raffle chances.
Sno cones will be provided by the Altoona Hospital Relay for Life team.
Other booths include the Picnic committee which will sell 50/50 tickets and registration tickets. The Tyrone Fire Police will have restaurant raffle tickets for sale throughout the day.
