Tyrone Area YMCA Children’s Center is currently accepting applications for new students for the 2004-05 school year.
The program runs Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and follows the Tyrone Area School District’s calendar. When the school district is closed for vacations, in-service or weather conditions, the children’s center will remain open. The only exception to this includes: Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Memorial Day.
A typical day will begin at 6 a.m. with the before school program. This program provides care for children three-years-old through sixth grade. Children must be three before September 1, 2004. At 8 a.m. the school-aged children will be transported to the Tyrone Elementary School by the YMCA.
The morning preschool classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 11:15 a.m. The afternoon preschool classes begin at noon and end at 2:45 p.m. The children who stay all day need to bring a lunch, which will be served at 11:15 a.m. A refrigerator and microwave will be available for use.
Pre-school is for three and four-year-olds. The curriculum consists of a wide variety of lessons that help develop the children’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical and creative well-being.
Each month, children will receive a calendar with activities listed on it. On this calendar will be what is needed for special art activities, field trips, snacks as well as show and tell.
The after school care program provides care for children three-years-old through sixth grade. Children must be three before September 1, 2004. The after school care is from 2:45 p.m. until 6 p.m. Transportation from the Tyrone Schools to the children’s center is provided by the YMCA.
At 2:45 p.m., the after-school children will be picked up from the elementary school. At this time, they will go to their designated room with their teacher. Until 3:30 p.m., the children may socialize and enjoy their snack.
From 3:30 to 4 p.m. will be quiet time for children to work on their homework, read or play quietly. From 4 to 5 p.m., will be after school specials, including: art, music, puppets, group games and movies.
From 5 to 6 p.m., will be free time where children may continue to work on their homework or choose from a variety of toys, games and books.
