At last week’s special Tyrone Borough Council meeting, former manager Nathan George received support from the public during comments before council took action to terminate him and from well-wishers after the meeting.
Now, he is receiving additional support from the public in the form of a petition drive in town.
At least three businesses in the borough have petitions available for residents to sign in support of George.
The petition is a two-page letter outlining concerns about George’s dismissal and the conduct of Tyrone Borough, asking that an investigation be conducted. The signed petitions will be sent to the office of Pennsylvania Attorney General Jerry Pappert.
Brian McManigal, owner of Mac’s Market, started the petition drive, and as of this morning, about 40 people had signed it at his location.
When asked why he started the petition drive, McManigal explained why.
“Because, it’s still America,” he said. “If he did something wrong, and maybe he did, he should be told why.
“This man’s livelihood is at stake. He moved his family 1,000 miles. He’s a young man. He doesn’t have a lot of assets to fall back on.”
McManigal said he wants to know whether or not George’s dismissal was justified.
As of this morning, a total of at least 60 people had signed the petition which is being displayed at three Tyrone businesses.
In addition to Mac’s Market, 1658 Columbia Ave., the petition is also at Chic Salon, 1051 Logan Ave. The petition is also being displayed at a business along Pennsylvania Avenue. The business owner at that location requested The Daily Herald not publish the name or exact location of the business.
