A new twist on a common scam has surfaced in the Blair County area.
Scam artists are calling local individuals and asking them to provide the routing and account numbers that appear at the bottom of their checks, claiming that the information is needed to verify Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for Elderly (PACE) benefits.
Blair Senior Services, Inc. would like to remind older adults not to share any financial or personal information with anyone that they do not know.
According to Missy Raley, care management supervisor for the Agency, “No one affiliated with Blair Senior Services or the Pennsylvania Department of Aging would request such information over the telephone.
“If you are contacted for that type of information, hang up and call the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Fraud Hot Line at 1-800-441-2555 and local police. You may also contact the Agency at 946-1235 or 1-800-245-8232. Remember to ask for appropriate identification before letting anyone into your home.”
