At Monday evening’s Snyder Township meeting, supervisors reviewed a report sent to the township by Tyrone Borough on fire company funds.
In February, supervisors requested a report from Tyrone indicating how fire protection money was spent. Currently, the township pays approximately $15,000 to the borough for fire service protection.
The agreement was made between the township and the borough when Tyrone had three acting fire companies. Since the Citizens Fire Company closed its doors, the borough now only has two fire companies.
The fire protection agreement between the township and the borough was set because the Bald Eagle Fire Company cannot handle the responsibility of the whole area of the township. Therefore, the borough’s services need to be called in at times.
While the board reviewed the report, supervisor Charlie Diehl said, “This still isn’t what we asked for.”
The township is looking for an audit of fire protection funds, instead of a spreadsheet analysis.
The issue of fire protection is scheduled to be discussed further at the next meeting.
Also, township engineer and sewage enforcement officer Bill Gohn gave an update on the expansion project of Kunzler & Company, Inc.
Gohn said he recently completed an inspection at Kunzler’s and added that he will be sending the company a letter for them to address some minor issues having to deal with storm water management.
The bacon manufacturer’s 22,000 square foot expansion project is expected to create 25-50 new jobs for the area over time.
In other news, supervisors:
• adopted Ordinance No. 2004-3 as requirements for the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act and regulations to the Act promulgated by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry;
• reviewed medical benefit quotes for township employees and approved Health America as the provider, and
• approved to pay EADS Group from Phase II of the HOME Grant for program administration in the amount of $1,053.
