The warm and sunny weather everyone enjoyed this week in northern Blair County is a preview of what is to come for the summer months, so it makes sense for kids and parents to start planning ahead for summer activities.
That is why Tyrone Area YMCA is proud to announce that registration has begun for its annual Camp Sun-N-Fun scheduled to be held at Bellwood-Antis Community Pool.
This year, a highlight for parents is that camp prices have been cut to provide another reason for kids to be enrolled in camp.
Director of the summer camp, Linda Klesius, has scheduled an open house Saturday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tyrone Area YMCA.
The purpose of the open house is for interested individuals to learn more about Camp Sun-N-Fun and also to have an opportunity to meet some of the day camp staff.
Pricing for day camp (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) is $59 for members and $81 for non-members per week. Camp and extended hours (up to 10 hours a day) is $81 for members and $109 for non-members per week. Children may sign up for a week or for multiple weeks.
For those who are interested in extended care, drop-off and pick-up is at the Tyrone Area YMCA, and those just taking part in the base camp hours may drop-off at either the YMCA or the Bellwood-Antis Community Pool.
A family discount of 20 percent off the cost of each child’s registration will be granted after the first child is enrolled. There is a one time cost of $7 for a camp T-shirt. The shirt must be worn on all field trips.
Scholarships are available to those who need financial assistance. For those interested in scholarships, pick up an application at the Tyrone Area YMCA during normal business hours.
Campers will enjoy various activities and games which include swim lessons taught by trained instructors, free swim time, sand activities, arts and crafts, sports, nature and much more.
Every week at camp is geared toward a specific theme. For example, “Water Week” or “Olympics”, in which activities and crafts will be created. To top off an already exciting program, every Friday there will be a field trip to various places throughout the area.
