The former Tyrone-Snyder Public Library building gave its first clue today about its future life.
Members of the Tyrone Community Players, who purchased the old building at the beginning of March, graced the facade with a banner announcing their upcoming production, Pippin.
Area residents are encouraged to look in the near future for an announcement about a new name for the building as well as a plan for its use as an Arts Center, and an open house.
TCP spokesperson and president, Sharon Dannaway, said, “As with any move, it takes a little while to settle in before you feel you can welcome guests. As soon as we are organized, the building will be open for everyone to learn and envision what we have planned for it.”
Members of TCP announced the purchase of the building from owner Jeff Long on March 3 in The Daily Herald. The building was purchased with a mortgage from M&T Bank, and TCP closed on the property Friday, February 27.
According to Cindy Bennett, member of TCP, the organization will fund the mortgage by adding some additional programming to the children’s summer theater workshop and by participating in some other fundraisers.
The building is currently in the renovation process to be transformed into an arts workshop offering gallery space and rehearsal space. Also, the building will provide room for art and music lessons, a small venue performance space and a permanent home for children’s summer workshops, theater camps and choral projects.
Built in 1926, the three story brick building was originally used as the Tyrone Elks Lodge, and then was home to the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. The new library building is now located on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Also, rehearsals are underway for TCP’s upcoming musical, Pippin, scheduled for May 7-8 at the theater of the Tyrone YMCA. For more information about the production, phone the ArtsLine at 684-ART2.
In other TCP news, members are offering, again this year, their famous fudge. The candy, which is homemade from \”Grandmother\’s recipe,\” will be available for pick-up on May 6-7 between the hours of 10-1 p.m.
Special arrangements can be made for delivery and/or pick-up if those times are not convenient. Pick-up will be at the new building. Phone the ArtsLine at 684-ART2 or Donna Carson at 632-7887 to order.
