The doors of the Tyrone High School auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m. this evening and in the following hour, will see more than 700 people pass through for the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library’s third ever fundraising concert event.
Headlining the show will be the internationally famous and hailing from Turtle Creek, “The Vogues.” Opening the show will be comedian/musician Robbie Wise, and back by popular demand, now 11-year-old singing sensation Vanessa Campagna.
Tickets remain on sale and can be purchased up to showtime, 7:30 p.m., at the box office at the auditorium.
“For $25, you really get a good deal,” said Chuck Banas, vice-president of the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library Board of Directors. “This is going to be a family-oriented show that’s surely going to be a good time for everyone who attends.”
If ticket sales are any indication, the concert fundraisers are becoming larger and more attended each year.
“Obviously, this has been a very big success for us,” said Banas, who coordinated the concert. “This is by far the largest and most successful of our shows. The whole library board is excited with how well the response has been.”
According to Banas, as of yesterday afternoon, 761 tickets have been sold for the show.
“I really just need to remind people that the show is (tonight),” said Banas. “You wouldn’t believe how many people said they forgot about it last time. I wanted to make sure that wasn’t going to happen again.”
As for tonight’s show, Robbie Wise, a comedian/musician who visited the area recently with a performance at Colonial Courtyard, will open.
His performance will add a new component to the concert series.
Wise, who claims to be “Pittsburgh’s best kept secret,” started practicing magic in 1966 and has been using it ever since.
Banas, who had the opportunity to see Wise perform at Colonial Courtyard, said those attending will enjoy his on-stage act.
“I had no idea how good he was until I saw him,” said Banas. “He did one trick and he wasn’t even in the room.”
Wise was accompanied on his recent trip by 11-year-old Vanessa Campagna.
Some may remember her as the 10-year-old runner-up to last season’s CBS Star Search.
Northern Blair County residents remember her as the little girl who rocked the Tyrone High School auditorium stage last year when she opened for “The Marcels.”
This year, she’s back and will perform directly after Robbie Wise.
“We’re really excited that she’s coming back,” said Banas, noting numerous requests were made after last year’s performance for her to come back again.
Banas said Vanessa will bring a little bit of everything to the show, as well as some “new stuff.”
“She’s really an exciting little girl to be around,” said Banas. “Her personality is like a magnet.”
“The Vogues” will headline the event.
In the late 60s through mid-70s, “The Vogues” brought their musical style from Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania and transformed it into a sound that delighted folks across the world.
They’ve grabbed a No. 1 hit with “Turn and Look at Me”; two No. 2 songs, “You’re the One” and “Five O’Clock World”; and two top fives with “My Special Angel” and “Till.”
“These guys are kind of like, well, hometown guys,” said Banas.. “We’re excited to have them on stage performing here in northern Blair County. It’s going to be a real treat.”
According to Banas, “The Vogues” will be playing a mix of “The Vogues’” greatest hits, as well as some more modern music.
Flash photography and videotaping during the show is strictly prohibited; however, Banas noted there will be intermission time where the artists will be available for photographs and autographs.
