On Saturday, the residents, staff and administrator of Epworth Manor honored nearly 200 youth and adults who serve as volunteers throughout the year.
“Making Beautiful Music Together” was the theme of the volunteer appreciation celebration that honored the volunteers who combined to contribute approximately 12,000 hours of service during the past year.
Also, entertainment for the event was provided by “Three Generations on Strings,” a family group from Blair County.
Volunteer coordinator Carol Ayers presented tokens of appreciation to each volunteer at the celebration. Also, she explained that both adults and young people give of their time throughout the year to Epworth Manor residents.
“Some of the young people are part of the Health Tech program, the Middle School student council and the Honor Society of the Tyrone Area High School,” said Ayers. “We look forward to honoring our volunteers of any age.”
According to Ayers, volunteers provide numerous services for the residents of Epworth Manor. Some include: transporting residents to special treatments and programs, assisting the beautician and barber, filling water mugs and assisting residents at mealtime.
Other activities the volunteers spend their time with is: mending clothing, delivering mail, distributing snacks, providing special music, conducting Bible study sessions, creating floral arrangements, accompanying residents on shopping trips, serving special resident and family meals and assisting with other activities as well.
“At Epworth Manor, we recognize the importance of our volunteers and their commitment to bring happiness to our residents,” added executive director Robin Stern. “This celebration is just a small expression of our appreciation to the volunteers for the countless hours of service they provide.”
