Merle Louise Ammerman was inducted into the Keystone Indoor Drill Association Hall of Fame on March 27.
She was recognized as an individual who has devoted outstanding service towards the growth of indoor majorette activity. She was also recognized as having a monumental impact on the Tyrone majorette corps.
Ammerman was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. She has served as majorette advisor for the past 20 years.
She attends almost every junior and senior high majorette practice, which adds up to many hours every week. According to members of the majorette squad, she always goes the extra mile in everything that she does.
Ammerman was honored with a plaque at championships in Hanover on March 27.
Also at the KIDA Blue Majorette championships held March 27, the Tyrone Area Senior High School majorettes finished their season, this time bringing home first place honors.
The majorettes took part in eight competitions during the regular season and placed first in all of them. This is the first undefeated season for the senior high majorettes since 1983.
The Tyrone Junior High majorettes also ended their season with a second place finish at the championships in Hanover.
