Although northern Blair County residents will be swimming around for the next couple of days, there is relief in sight.
According to Paul Pastelok, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather in State College, the weather pattern residents have experienced for the past couple of days will soon break up, making way for sunshine and warmer temperatures by the weekend.
“What we’re going to see is a flip-flop from this heavy rain and wet snow to some warmer temperatures by the end of the week,” said Pastelok.
He said Thursdays temperatures will hover into 50s, but to expect a possible high of 64 on Friday and maybe even 70-degree temperatures on Saturday.
Despite the good forecast, residents still must deal with a couple more days of rain.
He said last night’s weather event brought between a half and an inch of precipitation, before a break for the better part of the early morning.
He said rain would be heavy at times this afternoon and taper to lighter rainfall this evening and tomorrow morning. He said showers can be expected Wednesday night.
“After that, it should be about done and ready to float off the east coast,” said Pastelok.
All the precipitation gave cause for the National Weather Service to issue a flood warning through tomorrow morning.
“Although some won’t believe it, we’re still in the thawing process right now,” said Pastelok.
“The ground may be soft on top, but underneath it’s still frozen. That’s starting to unthaw a little now bringing even more water to the surface. It’s not unlikely that even an inch of precipitation could cause flooding in small streams and on roadways, said Pastelok.
Paselok explained a flood warning is issued when there is the potential for flooding. A flood warning is issued when a flooding event is experienced and there is potential for more.
