The annual Community Good Friday service, sponsored by the Tyrone Area Cooperative Ministries is scheduled from noon until 3 p.m. this Friday at First English Lutheran Church, 17 West 13th Street.
The service will feature hymns, scripture readings and meditations based on the events in the life of Christ from His prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane through His burial. Pastors from throughout the community will be taking part.
The topics and speakers include: “Jesus’ Prayers in the Garden” from Rev. Charles Fitzgerald of Wesley United Methodist Church; “Jesus’ Betrayal and Arrest” from Major Karen Garrett of the Tyrone Salvation Army; “Jesus’ Trials” from Rev. Robert Dunkelberger of the First Presbyterian Church and “The Walk to Calvary” from Rev. Bob Smith of the New Covenant Fellowship, Altoona.
Also, “The Crucifixion” from Rev. Andrew Bradley of the Church of the Good Shepherd; “Burial” from Rev. Norman Huff, retired United Methodist pastor; “Those Left Behind” from Rev. Jay Jones of the Bald Eagle-Grazierville United Methodist Parish and “The Litany of God’s Suffering Words” from Rev. Dennis Reedy of Christ United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Sally Cupp will be the organist, and prior to the closing litany, Mrs. Pat Gardner will sing “I Have Not Seen.”
The Rev. TM Talbot-Moses, TACM chairperson for the Good Friday service, is host pastor for the event.
Worshippers are encouraged to stay for the entire service, but those who must leave are asked to do so during the singing of hymns at the start of each worship segment.
