Yesterday, Snyder Township solicitor Allen Gibboney explained the details of the tentative deal worked out between Kunzler & Company, Inc., and the township so the bacon manufacturer’s 22,000 square foot expansion project can continue as planned.
Gibboney explained that after a special meeting held February 19, township engineers met with engineers from Kunzler’s to work out an agreement.
A draft was written which indicates that Kunzler’s will be able to go ahead with the construction and completion of the two additions on the assumption that the base flood elevation is approved by FEMA.
If it turns out the base flood elevation plan is not approved by FEMA, Kunzler’s would then have 90 days to take action to fix the problems.
Kunzler’s would then notify the township supervisors, and the township engineers would inspect the building additions again.
Based on this agreement, Kunzler’s will have a conditional occupancy permit.
If FEMA accepts or denies the base flood elevation plans, Kunzler’s will take additional action to flood proof the building. By September 1, 2004, a final inspection will occur, and then a final occupancy permit will be issued.
The agreement came after much discussion between Kunzler’s and the township.
At the Feb. 19 special meeting, Gibboney said four issues needed to be addressed, including: the township’s approval of Kunzler’s map revision request; storm water management approval; land development ordinance status; and a building permit to be issued by the township.
The first step at resolving the issue was that Bill Gohn of the EADS Group, and township engineer, issued a letter to supervisors at the Feb. 19 special meeting that endorsed the approval of the map-revision request.
Motioned by supervisor Jim Chronister and seconded by chairman Charlie Diehl, Resolution 2004-8 to sign the overview and concurrence form from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for Kunzler’s was therefore adopted by supervisors.
The issues of storm water management approval, land development ordinance status and a building permit were addressed at the meeting held yesterday.
Vice president and plant general manager of Kunzler’s, Dave Grazier is hoping the 6.5 million dollar building expansion project can be completed by May and that it will be opened at the end of May.
The project will create 25-50 new jobs for the area.
