The Northern Blair County Regional Sewer Authority will be around for at least 30 more years.
Susan Bonsell, executive secretary of NBCRSA, confirmed this morning that both Antis and Snyder Township supervisors adopted ordinances that will keep NBCRSA intact for another 30 years.
According to Bonsell, this was the only way the organization could close on a $1.68 million Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority loan.
This loan would help the townships construct a public sewer line to 66 homes in the Ironville, Tyrone Forge and Cook Hollow areas.
The costs of that project will be offset by $500,000 thanks to a recently approved Community Development Block Grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
According to William Gohn, an engineer for Engineering Architecture and Design Services of Altoona, he said advertising bids for the projects will begin on Feb. 2. He said bid openings would be on March 2 and would hope to award the contract on March 9.
Gohn said the projects will be bid separately.
“Bidding projects like this separately really gives the small contractors a better chance of bidding on it,” said Gohn. “It’s nice when you can have local people doing the work.”
Gohn said the project which will bring sewage service to 19 homes in Ironville and 13 homes in Tyrone Forge, will consist of a pressure sewer system with individual grinder pumps in each home.
The project which will bring sewer service to 24 homes in Cooks Hollow will be a gravity sewer collection system.
In other business, chairman of the board Charlie Diehl told The Daily Herald the authority retained the same officers for 2004 as it had in 2003. Diehl will remain chairman; Darrel Yeager will remain vice-chairman and Leo Matusewski will retain the secretary/treasurer role.
Diehl also said the board welcomed new member Robert Schoch. Schoch is replacing Jim Chronister, whose five-year term had expired. Schoch was appointed to the commission by the Antis Township Board of Supervisors.
