Warriors Mark Township will once again make funding available to township residents and farmland owners in 2004.
“We set aside $10,000 a year in our budget (for land preservation),” said Stuart Neff, chairman of the Warriors Mark Township supervisors.
The program has been in place since 2002.
“The purpose of the program was to make additional funding available to those also participating in the (Huntingdon) County’s version of the program,” said Neff.
The money for the township program comes from regular funding sources including the earned income tax and real estate transfer tax.
The funds accrue from year to year. There is now $20,000 available plus the additional $10,000 for 2004, as no one has yet taken advantage of the available money according to Neff.
Previously, the Huntingdon County Agricultural Land Preservation Board announced the next sign-up period for submitting applications for consideration under the County’s Ag Land Preservation Program will start on Jan. 1, 2004.
Those applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on March 31, 2004.
To receive the county application, interested parties should contact the Huntingdon County Conservation District at 627-1627 to receive an application.
Those wanting additional details on the township program can write to Warriors Mark Township, P.O. Box 114, Warriors Mark, PA 16877 or contact the township secretary at 632-7223.
One additional note: The next Warriors Mark Township Supervisors meeting has been changed to Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at 11 a.m. for the purpose of reorganization and the conducting of regular business.
