In conjunction with the tree lighting and annual Christmas parade in Tyrone on Thursday, December 4, the Tyrone Area YMCA has scheduled a wreath fundraiser from noon until the end of the parade to benefit the Tyrone Area Salvation Army.
YMCA staff will be accompanied by Leidig’s Farm of Warriors Mark at the Choice parking lot located on 10th Street and Logan Avenue to sell live wreaths.
Quantities of the wreaths are limited. For those interested in more information about the wreaths, such as prices or sizes, contact the YMCA during regular business hours or visit the YMCA staff at Choice parking lot the day of the Christmas parade.
For those planning to attend the parade, the tree lighting is scheduled to start by the Tyrone post office at 6:15 p.m. Then, the parade starts at 6:30 p.m., sponsored by the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce.
The normal parade route will end at the Armory for a visit with Santa, hot chocolate provided by the Salvation Army and cookies from the Tyrone Women’s Club. Judging will also be done and announced at the Armory.
Another holiday activity the YMCA is sponsoring is the annual Brunch with Santa to be held at the Tyrone YMCA building. The brunch is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on December 6.
The brunch is on a first-come-first-serve basis, and the first 50 children that register will be accepted. It is free for the children. To make reservations for the Brunch with Santa, contact the YMCA.
For those planning on purchasing fruit for the annual YMCA fruit sale fundraiser, there is only a few more days to do so. The fruit sale deadline is Monday, December 1.
Leidig’s Farm of Warriors Mark will be supplying fresh citrus fruit from the Indian River area of Florida, such as pink grapefruit, tangelos, navel oranges and red and yellow delicious apples.
Delivery of the fruit is scheduled to occur on the week of December 15.
In other YMCA news, winter programs offer dance classes, karate instruction, gymnastics classes and team, youth strength training, swimming lessons, yoga, water aerobics, active older adult exercise program and women on weights. A full listing of winter programs can be found at the YMCA.
Currently, the 18 and older co-ed adult basketball league, formerly the 25+ adult league, is open for registration. The deadline is December 12, with the regular season beginning soon after.
